Turbocharger Repair and Maintenance in Peru

Servicio de turbocompresores de GDA Group

Multi-brand service for industrial turbochargers

At GDA Group we provide maintenance and repair for multi-brand industrial turbochargers — ABB, MAN, MTU, among others — with certified technicians and dynamic rotor balancing. We restore your equipment's performance, reduce unscheduled shutdowns and do it for up to 30-40% below the cost of the brand representative.

We work with turbochargers from diesel and gas engines used in vessels, generator sets, mining equipment and industrial plants. Our technical team has training and direct experience with leading manufacturers, which allows us to work to the same quality standards and tolerances required by each brand.

  • ABB Turbochargers
  • MAN Turbochargers
  • MTU Turbochargers

What does the service include?

Initial diagnosis and inspection

We assess the condition of the turbocharger, review the operating history and identify the root cause of the failure, not just the symptom.

Disassembly and technical cleaning

Complete disassembly and cleaning of housings, rotor, nozzles and internal components for an accurate inspection.

Component inspection and measurement

We check clearances and wear on bearings, seals, blades and shafts, comparing them against the manufacturer's tolerances.

Dynamic rotor balancing

We balance the rotating assembly on a Schenck balancing machine (see our dynamic rotor balancingservice) to eliminate vibration and extend the life of the equipment.

Component replacement

We replace worn parts with original or certified equivalent spare parts, according to the client's needs and budget.

Assembly, testing and delivery with a technical report

We assemble, test and deliver the equipment with a report of the work performed and maintenance recommendations.

Signs that your turbocharger needs maintenance

  • Loss of power or slow engine response
  • Black, blue or white exhaust smoke
  • Whistling, metallic noises or abnormal vibrations
  • High oil consumption or leaks around the turbo
  • Exhaust gas temperature above normal
  • Drop in boost pressure

If your equipment shows any of these symptoms, a timely inspection prevents a minor repair from turning into a complete turbocharger replacement.

Preventive maintenance and corrective repair

Preventive maintenance

Inspections and overhauls scheduled according to operating hours, to anticipate failures and plan shutdowns without affecting production.

Corrective repair

Service when the turbocharger already has a failure: diagnosis, repair and start-up in the shortest possible time.

Turbocharger repair: what we repair and how

A damaged turbocharger doesn't always need to be replaced. In most cases, a well-executed turbocharger repair restores the unit to factory specifications for a fraction of the cost of a new turbo. At GDA Group we repair industrial, marine and heavy machinery turbochargers at our Lurín workshop, with certified technicians and dynamic rotor balancing.

When should you send your turbocharger for repair?

Don't wait for the turbo to fail completely: a catastrophic failure can also damage the engine. Schedule an evaluation if you notice loss of boost pressure, metallic noise or abnormal whistling, vibration, blue or black smoke, high oil consumption or a drop in engine power. In our article on why a turbocharger loses pressure we explain the most common causes, and if you want a cost reference, see how much it costs to repair a turbocharger in Peru. Catching the failure early almost always means a shorter, cheaper repair and fewer hours of downtime.

Failures we repair

  • Worn bearings and bushings: the most common cause of excessive axial and radial play. They are measured, replaced and clearances are checked against the manufacturer's manual.
  • Damaged shaft and rotor: scoring, imbalance or deformation from overheating. We recondition or replace the shaft and balance the rotating assembly.
  • Leaking seals and rings: they cause oil consumption and blue smoke. We replace the seals and inspect the lubrication system.
  • Damaged turbine or compressor wheel: damage from foreign object ingestion or erosion. We assess whether the wheel can be recovered or needs replacing.
  • Cracked or fouled housings: technical cleaning, inspection and repair or replacement of the housing.

Repair or replace the turbocharger?

It makes sense to repair when the damage is in wear components (bearings, seals, rings) or when the rotor can be recovered and balanced within tolerance. It makes sense to replace when the housing is cracked in critical areas, the shaft is fractured or the cost of parts exceeds the value of a new or remanufactured turbo. After the diagnosis we give you a technical report with both options and their cost, so you can decide based on data, not guesswork.

Equipment we service

We repair multi-brand turbochargers (ABB, MAN, MTU, among others) installed in:

  • Industrial power generation engines and generator sets.
  • Marine engines on fishing and cargo vessels.
  • Diesel heavy machinery for mining and construction.
  • Oil and gas operations, and industrial plants with gas or diesel engines in continuous operation.

How repair works at GDA Group

Every repair follows the same protocol: initial diagnosis and inspection, disassembly and technical cleaning, measurement of all components, replacement of damaged parts, dynamic rotor balancing on a Schenck balancing machine, assembly, testing and delivery with a technical report and photos. That way you know exactly what was found, what was replaced and the condition your turbocharger is returned in.

We serve Lima and all of Peru, and coordinate equipment transport from the provinces. Working with certified former ABB technicians, our repairs cost up to 30-40% less than the official brand representative's service, without sacrificing quality.

Industries we serve

We serve companies in marine and fishing, power generation, mining, oil and gas and shipyards throughout Peru, with field service capability, including the Amazon.

And if you also need engine work, through GDA Industry Solutions we perform industrial engine overhauls, so you can coordinate everything with a single team.

How we work

  1. Contact: you tell us the equipment, the brand and the symptom.
  2. Diagnosis: we assess the turbocharger and send you the scope.
  3. Quote: a clear proposal, with detailed timelines and spare parts.
  4. Execution: repair or maintenance in the workshop or in the field.
  5. Delivery: tested equipment and technical report.

Frequently asked questions about turbocharger repair

It depends on the brand, the model and the operating conditions. As a reference, manufacturers set inspection and overhaul intervals by operating hours; we assess your equipment and recommend the right plan.

We are a multi-brand service: we work with ABB, MAN and MTU turbochargers, among others. Write to us with the brand and model to confirm.

The cost depends on the model, the damage and the spare parts required. After the diagnosis we send you a detailed quote, on average up to 30-40% lower than the brand representative's.

It depends on the scope and the availability of spare parts. In the quote we indicate the estimated timeline so you can plan your shutdown.

Yes. We serve all of Peru, including operations in the Amazon, and we coordinate transport when the work must be done in the workshop.

We work with original or certified equivalent spare parts, according to the technical need and the client's budget.

The most common are loss of boost pressure, metallic noise or abnormal whistling, vibration, blue or black exhaust smoke, high oil consumption and a drop in engine power. If you notice any of these signs, it's best to stop the equipment and request a technical evaluation, because a total turbo failure can also damage the engine.

Yes. We repair turbochargers for industrial and power generation engines, marine engines on fishing and cargo vessels, and diesel heavy machinery for mining and construction, at our Lurín workshop, with transport coordinated from any region of Peru.
